The Portsmouth Teenage Project provides activities for young people aged 13 to 17 with a mild to moderate disability or special educational need who reside or are educated in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Teenage Project staff are trained to support young people and accommodate their needs during each activity, regardless of their level of ability, physical or otherwise. Before attending Portsmouth Teenage Project for the first time a home visit will need to take place to assess suitability. We offer a varied programme of inclusive group activities in leisure, sport and recreation designed to allow young people to interact with their peers on a regular basis.

A focus is on improving life skills for all young people including building confidence and independence, friendships and developing communication skills. Our young people are given the opportunity to socialise with each other and to take part in a range of activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, movie nights, theme nights or just relaxing and playing computer games. Other activities taking place during the month include bowling and pool, cinema trips, and attending mixed sports sessions. Some of our longer trips have included days out in London, Beaulieu Motor Museum, LaserTag and every so often in the summer months, we enjoy a day out at Thorpe Park.We also run a holiday programme, which runs 10am to 4pm daily at a local Activity Centre.

Activities take place throughout the year on a weekly basis, usually on Friday nights, in Portsmouth and the surrounding area.

Enable Ability provides a minibus service for some of the trips that are outside the Portsmouth area. However most of our sessions will usually take place in Portsmouth, and if you are unable to find transport to and from the activities then speak to a member of staff as we may be able to help in exceptional circumstances.

If you are interested in your young person being involved with Portsmouth Teenage Project, please contact the Project Leader by calling during office hours on 023 9267 1847 or sending an email to portsmouthtp@enableability.org.uk
