Hampshire Youth Project awarded grant from B&Q

Enable Ability receives funding boost from B&Q Foundation

Local charity, Enable Ability, has announced they have received a grant from the B&Q Foundation, in partnership with giving platform Neighbourly.

Enable Ability has been established since 1950, and works in partnership with disabled children and adults, their families and carers to provide a range of quality, professional and confidential services. It supports over 700 families and clients living in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire each year via numerous specialised projects, which have the flexibility to be adapted to individual needs.

The £5,000 grant will allow Enable Ability’s Hampshire Youth Project (a service that supports young adults aged 13-25 with mild to moderate learning/physical disabilities) to continue its outdoor gardening projects- one of which is to improve the outdoor space of a local Hampshire Care Home.

Hollie Sherred, Partnerships and Events Officer from Enable Ability said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded a grant from the B&Q Foundation. This will enable us to further support the young people who use the service with their outdoor projects, which are benefitting both the participants and other members of the local community. The funding will also have a significant impact on the families of our young people, in terms of giving them respite and providing them with actual world-of-work opportunities that they would find hard to enrol onto anywhere else in Hampshire. We would like to thank everyone at the Foundation for their support, it means so much to us.”

Paul Crisp, Trustee of the B&Q Foundation, said: “At the B&Q Foundation, we believe everyone needs a place to feel at home. So we’re putting our efforts behind local charities who share our vision – helping to create better, safer places for the people in our communities who need them most. “ Enable Ability perfectly embodies these values and it gives us all at the Foundation great pleasure to support them.”

The B&Q Foundation was established in 2020 to support UK charities with a combination of grants, volunteering time and home improvement resources. So far it has supported over 250 charities with grants totalling more than £1.3million.
