Young people aged 13-17 years old across Portsmouth from all backgrounds and types of disabilities spent the day at Thorpe Park on Sunday. The weather held off and, as always, behaviour was kept at a consistently good standard throughout the day which meant everyone had a fantastic time, despite a power cut which knocked out over half the rides for a short period of time during the afternoon.
Thanks to Thorpe Park, our Ride Access passes allowed our young people to break into smaller groups supported by Enable Ability staff and avoid the long queues to enjoy most the rides in the park from 12.30-6.30pm, even having time to enjoy dinner at Burger King together!
With a full minibus and car, the parents and carers of our young people could benefit from the affordable transport offered to them taking their young person to and from the theme park, plus the special group rates offered to the charity meant they could relax throughout the day knowing their young person was in the capable hands of our fully-trained charity staff for an affordable rate, providing essential respite care whilst their young person was guaranteed thrill-seeking fun at the popular theme park!
We were joined by a few young people on Sunday who are new to the Portsmouth Teenage Project, we were delighted to welcome them to the group and they made some new friends and fitted in quite naturally. Here are just a few quotes from parents following the day trip to the theme park:
“He really enjoyed it and made some good friends. It was just what he needed, to be around others like him who understands him.”
“Thank you for yesterday, he had a great day and was really tired when he returned home.”
“Thank you James for yesterday as he seemed to have had a brilliant time. Thanks also to Charlotte and any other helpers.”
“He had a great time, thanks very much.”
“A big thank you to all the carers for looking after him, he says he had a brilliant time today.”
