Enable Ability requires motivated and creative people to be Support Workers for various positions, which will be an exciting opportunity to help develop the service. We are recruiting staff for 3 specific areas of activity (all of which take place during evenings, weekends or daytime during school holiday periods):


(i) Portsmouth Teenage and Youth Projects, which support young people aged 14 – 25 years of age with a range of mild to moderate learning or physical disabilities that live in Portsmouth;

(ii)Saturday Club for children aged 5 – 16 years with moderate to severe disabilities.

(iii)Befriending for children and adults with wide-ranging disabilities

All projects provide a varied programme of leisure activities, which promote socialisation and help to build up confidence, improve self-esteem and independence; plus, at Youth Project - opportunities for supported volunteering and work experience.  Befrienders will work in a one-to-one partnership with clients to help them to achieve a greater level of independence by empowering them to participate in activities in the community


Applications are encouraged from both male and female candidates and the ability to drive would be an advantage, if you would like to be considered for a befriending role.


With the exception of Befriending, all activities take place in group settings with the help and support of trained staff & volunteers. The main purpose of the Saturday Club, Teenage & Youth Projects is to encourage the young people to positively interact with their peers and develop life skills.


Hours to be worked flexibly as required, on average approximately 3-5 hours per session (occasionally some activities may be longer).  In addition, Enable Ability will meet all out-of-pocket expenses (including mileage as appropriate) and provide regular supervision, a supportive working environment and opportunities for career development

  • This position is subject to a DBS check at the enhanced level and satisfactory references.
  • No previous experience is required, just lots of patience & understanding
  • Good communication skills are essential along
  • The ability to interact well with young people
  • A full driving licence together with use of a car would be advantageous and is a requirement for the majority of befriending roles
